Trailer Security

You would be surprised at the rate of trailer theft there is in North America. Most trailers represent a huge
investment for families all over the globe and it is a shame that these people are targeted. Back in the days of
lower theft rates, people would really paint up their trailers in to something spectacular. Now a day’s people are
too scared to put the time and effort in to paint it in case it got stolen. But let me ask you something, would you
know if your trailer passed you on the highway? There are so many of the same looking models that you probably
wouldn’t notice which is why trailer security is so important.
With so many incidents of theft I feel an obligation to help educate you and your family to protect their
cherished investment. So let’s get down to it and talk about trailer security.
As I already mentioned you could paint your trailer. This would definitely give an identifying mark to signal
you, police, and others on the lookout. Even if you put some special marks on the roof or under carriage that would
definitely help identify it. Unfortunately, many states in the USA are now requiring anyone towing a trailer with
advertisements to also be carrying a CDL license. So if you do paint it, I wouldn’t paint any sort of graphics as
this may get you in to some trouble. Just paint a few stripes or an overall plain color all around.

Of course the very first thing you should have on your trailer is an incredible set of locks. You will want to
use the best locks and locking mechanisms available. Even some of the bigger locks are easily pried off or torched
off in seconds. You will want to have locks on all doors, windows, hitches, and even wheel locks to circumvent your
trailer from being dragged off somewhere to be looted.
You can buy alarms and sirens to help keep thieves away. There are many types available and should keep most
amateurs at bay. There are alarms that can connect to all of your locks in case they decide to use bolt cutters or
torches to open the locks. Some trailer security systems have motion sensors that will sound off if someone is too
close. Now you might think a simple alarm is pretty useless but get this. Many of the security alarms will now
flash all of the trailers, lock the wheel brakes, and shout an alarm that can be heard for miles. Some of the
latest systems even have a paging system to alert you.

And finally, when it comes to trailer security, a GPS tracking system is one of the best things you can buy.
This will make finding your trailer quick and hopefully police arrive in time to catch the thieves.
Purchasing all of these trailer security items will definitely keep your trailer safe. By
letting your insurance company know about the measures you have taken it will save you a small fortune on your
insurance rates. So there is no reason you shouldn’t invest in some good trailer security because what little you
spend on security is a lot less than buying a new trailer.
